What goes on a fresher CV

Start with your contact details, then a two-line summary of the role you want. After that, list your education, projects, internships or training, skills, and any certifications or achievements. Put the part that best fits the job nearest the top. For most freshers that is projects or an internship, not marks.

Turn college work into achievements

Recruiters read about results. Instead of "Made a website for a class project", write what you built, with what, and what happened: "Built a student attendance app in React and Firebase used by 120 classmates for one semester." Only write what is true, and be ready to explain it in an interview.

Keep it to one page

One page is enough at this stage. Use a single column, a plain font and standard headings. Fancy graphics, photos and icon skill bars often cause trouble for ATS software, so they are best avoided.

Skills and keywords

Read the job advert and note the tools and skills it asks for. If you really have them, use the same words in your skills list and your project bullets. This helps both software and people see the match quickly.

Common fresher mistakes

Frequently asked questions

Can I make a CV with no experience?

Yes. Use projects, internships, training, college activities and certifications to show what you can do. Describe what you built and what it achieved.

Should a fresher CV have a photo?

For most jobs a photo is not needed, and it can cause problems for ATS software. Add one only if the employer asks for it.

How long should a fresher CV be?

One page is usually enough.

Is DesignMyCV free for freshers?

Yes. Building, checking and downloading your CV is free, with no watermark.
